Are you struggling to discover a unique present in your girlfriend? The film is a few man and a girl who believe in nice real love. The man believes it is behind him; the girl hopes it is ahead of her. One of their ideals in life is “to be anyone’s true north.” Immediately we know they’re in hassle. You don’t just discover true love. You team up with somebody, and construct it from the bottom up. But “message in a bottle song sting in a Bottle” believes in the sort of love where the romantic music comes first, trembling and sweeping below every scene, and the dialogue is handled just like the lyrics.
But where, oh the place, did they get the film’s ending? Is it in the original novel, “Message in a Bottle,” by Nicholas Sparks ? Don’t know. Haven’t read it. The climactic occasions are shameless, contrived, and wildly out of tune with the remainder of the story. To saddle Costner, Penn and Newman with such goofy melodrama is like hiring Fred Astaire and strapping a tractor on his again.
